The Kamloops Arts and Crafts Club is not just a weaving, spinning and fibre arts group. In our large group from the Kamloops, BC area, we have in addition potters and painters. Members can drift from one discipline to the other and frequently do. We add other arts and crafts as the need arises. Of the 140 members of the Club, there are 30 fiber artists. We choose and do group projects on the seven looms our group owns. Some of our group projects have gone on for years, they are so popular, such as a double width blanket.
The original club began in the mid thirties meeting in homes, but in 1967 the city of Kamloops in a Centennial project gave us a home base called Heritage House which is in beautiful Riverside Park. We have two large rooms, one a pottery studio and the other a meeting and workshop area where the weavers and spinners have their weekly meetings. We meet on Tuesday mornings from 9:00 to 1:00. Looms are available for use 24/7.
We have two sales, demonstrations and displays each year where we sell our wares and show the public what we do. At these gatherings we generally add new members. We keep a photo and narrative scrapbook with all activities and projects displayed. All members are sent a monthly newsletter. We are a friendly group and welcome newcomers.
