In this round robin workshop participants will explore what can be done within the techniques of doubleweave with multiple layers of cloth on a multi-shaft loom. We will weave samples and study the theory behind a variety of structures. Four-shaft structures include 4-color block rotation, double-block layer exchange, tubular log cabin, and overshot-patterned doubleweave. Eight-shaft structures include 4-layer weaves, double-width twill cloth, decorative stitched cloth, doubleweave checkerboards and windows, 8-shaft double-blocks, twill pickup and block pickup.
Level – Intermediate. No prior experience in doubleweave is needed, but students must know how to warp a loom according to instructions. Students will bring a 4-shaft or 8-shaft table or floor loom warped according to instructions.
Material fee – $10 per student
The Instructor, Jennifer Moore
After experimenting with various weave structures for several years, I found my home in the ancient technique of doubleweave pick-up. In doubleweave two layers of cloth are woven simultaneously, one above the other on the loom. Over the years I have developed new methods of setting up and weaving doubleweave that I feel make it accessible and understandable for all weavers. As much as I love practicing the art of doubleweave, nothing brings me greater joy than sharing it with others. I travel extensively throughout the U.S. and abroad teaching workshops on doubleweave, color and geometric design.
