1:30 PM – 4:00 PM Program
Kitsap Weavers’ and Spinners’ Guild is the county’s oldest guild, since 1938, promoting the interest and enthusiasm of men and women in Kitsap County and adjacent areas in their pursuit of the traditional arts of weaving and spinning. The guild meets in the Active Building – 1025 Tacoma Ave., Port Orchard, WA – behind the Givens Center.
The guild’s activities are many and varied. At least six (6) new programs are presented each year. Invited speakers come from other pacific Northwest Weavers’ and Spinners’ Guilds, sometimes from out-of-state Guilds and from our very own Guild membership. Special workshops are arranged for interested members. Past programs and workshops have been very productive and fulfilling. Topics to be presented are suggested by the Guild’s membership. Topics in the past have included Card weaving, Fiberarts Embellishments, Double Weave, Needle woven Jewelry, Weaving with Beads, Carding and Spinning Designer Yarns, Rainbow Dyeing, to name a few.
In between the different programs are the Christmas Party, Gift Exchange and White Elephant Sale at the December meeting, a Fashion Show and Salad Luncheon at the May meeting and the annual picnic in August to cap the year. We have been very fortunate that we have members who volunteer their residence and/or farm as the venue of the annual picnic.
Other activities include participation in the Spring and Fall Puyallup Fairs, Kitsap County Fair and the Association of Northwest Weavers’ Guilds’ conference held every two years at a designated Pacific Northwest city, and weaving and spinning demonstrations at area schools and to other interested groups.
For a very reasonable annual fee, a member can have unlimited use of the Guild’s extensive library, avail of discounts in weaving/spinning book purchases, participate in the Annual Fashion Show, White Elephant Sale, Auctions, scrumptious potluck luncheons and most of all, enjoy the camaraderie of the entire membership!
Members are encouraged to actively participate in the Guild’s many activities – anywhere from chairing one of the numerous committees, participation in demonstrations, make suggestions for programs and workshops, hosting one of the monthly meetings, or helping in setting up exhibits at the fair.
