The Midnight Shuttles Spinners and Weavers Guild is a small group of dedicated people who came together in 1979 with the common interest of weaving and spinning. There were eleven original members and four of these continue as members in 2017. We celebrated to our 35th anniversary in 2014.
Our name comes not from our semi-northern location but from the common time of day original members found in their busy lives to practice their creativity with fibre. Our meetings are held the first Thursday evening of the month from September to June.
Our membership has consistently run between 20 and 25 members. New members have joined us by obtained information about the guild in a variety of ways. In the early years the guild held annual community sales and fashion shows of our creations. These included demonstrations of weaving and spinning as well as information about the guild.
New members are welcomed with an information package containing the guild history and a copy of our constitution and policies. Mentoring is done by a number of members for beginner weavers and spinners and all new members are encouraged to attend the monthly meetings.
We have a lending library and equipment for loan which is available to all members. The library and equipment are stored at members’ homes which facilitates informal connecting within the membership. Our library contains numerous books on weaving and spinning, the latest copies of Handwoven and Spin Off magazines as well as the newsletters from the Greater Vancouver Guild of Weavers and Spinners, Assoc. of North West Weavers Guilds and the Guild of Canadian Weavers.
Meetings are held on the 1st, 3rd and 4th Wednesday from September through June at Sybil Andrews Cottage in Willow Point.Business is kept brief and only on the 1st Wednesday from 7-9 pm. Refreshments and a program , guest speaker or demonstration also happens on this night. Our other 2 get togethers are informal. Spinning wheels and fibre are the focus of the 3rd Wednesday from 1-4 pm and on the 4th Wednesday anything fibre goes…….knitting, crochet, rug hooking , spinning….from 6:30-9:00pm.
